Ethanol burners

Linear Ethanol Burners

A linear ethanol burner draws the flame as a row: a long bioethanol burner set into a custom surround, a media wall or a bespoke feature.

What a linear burner does: linear ethanol burners

A linear burner is the flame row without the fireplace around it: a long, low bioethanol burner that a project sets into its own construction. It is bought by the buyers who build — designers, joiners, contractors and venues making a one-off feature — and it gives them the working part of a linear fireplace with the housing left to their design. The flame is real, the fuel is bioethanol, and the burn is smokeless, so the surround needs no flue.

The published range presents the black linear burner as the family's standard form: a dark, minimal unit that disappears into a dark surround and leaves the flame row as the only visible element. In light surrounds the same form reads as a deliberate line. Either way, the burner is specified by its length and its control type, and the surround is specified by the buyer.

Length and the surround

Length is chosen against the construction, not the room in the abstract. The flame row should sit in proportion to the surround's face: centred, with the surround's material visible at both ends, or run closer to the full width in a minimal design. The surround's internal dimensions — the recess the burner drops into — are the measurements the inquiry needs, beside the item, so the burner length is confirmed against the real recess.

The surround's material and its distance from the flame are the buyer's construction responsibility, and they are part of the brief because they decide which burner details matter. A burner going into a stone surround and a burner going into a timber-framed media wall are confirmed against different notes; the inquiry should say, in a line, what the surround is made of.

Manual and smart linear burners

Manual linear burners are lit and adjusted at the unit: the simplest working part, and the right one where the fire is lit occasionally by someone standing at it. Smart linear burners add automatic ignition and remote or app control, and they are the specification where the feature is long, built into joinery, or run by staff from across a room. A long flame row behind a finished surround is rarely within easy reach, which is why the smart version is the common choice at the long end.

Ceramic log media, published as an ethanol accessory, can dress a linear burner where the design wants a wood-fire reading along the row. It is an accessory line in the inquiry, never part of the burner's own specification, and it should be listed separately so the working parts and the dressing are confirmed separately.

Confirming a linear burner order

Linear burner confirmation points
PointWhat to confirm
Burner lengthAgainst the recess it will drop into
Recess dimensionsThe surround's internal length and depth
Surround materialStone, masonry, joinery or other, in a line
ControlManual, or smart with remote and app
AccessoriesLog media and other dressing, on separate lines

The recess dimensions are the lines that cannot be reconstructed later from a photograph. Measure the recess as built, or state it as planned if the surround is being made for the burner, and say which of the two it is — the confirmation language differs, and the difference matters when the parts meet on site.
