Ethanol Burner Inserts

An ethanol burner insert packages a burner as a drop-in unit: the working parts of the fire, finished as an insert, for a surround the project builds.

What a burner insert is: ethanol burner inserts

A burner insert sits between a bare burner and a complete fireplace. The burner itself is a working part that a build must house; a complete insert is an appliance with its housing included. A burner insert finishes the burner as a unit — reservoir, flame opening and controls in one drop-in assembly — while leaving the visible surround to the project. It is the choice when the design is bespoke but the working parts should arrive tested as a set.

The smart member of the form is the smart ethanol burner: an automatic unit with electronic controls, published as the smart line's component. Set into a custom surround, it gives a one-off feature the operation of a smart fireplace — remote and app control, consistent ignition — without the standard insert's fixed housing.

Burner insert beside complete insert

The comparison that decides the order is housing. A complete ethanol fireplace insert brings its own housing, guard and finish: the opening is prepared, the unit is set, the fire is done. A burner insert brings the working parts only: the opening, the surround and the finish are the project's. Buyers with a joiner and a design take the burner insert; buyers with a deadline and a standard opening take the complete insert.

Both routes appear on the same projects. A venue might set complete inserts in its standard rooms and one burner insert in the bespoke feature of its lobby, where the surround is architecture. The inquiry should mark the route on every line, because the confirmation points differ: openings and control for complete inserts, recesses and surround construction for burner inserts.

The recess and the surround

A burner insert drops into a recess, and the recess is the order's key measurement: its length, width and depth as built, or as planned where the surround is being made around the unit. The surround's material goes beside the dimensions in the inquiry. A unit confirmed against a planned recess carries a different risk than one confirmed against a built recess, and the confirmation says which, in writing, when the buyer says which.

Access after installation is the second recess question. The unit must be reached for fuelling and for service, and in a sealed surround that reach has to be designed. A line in the inquiry describing the access — a removable panel, an open front, a hinged section — closes the question before the surround is closed.

Confirming a burner insert order

Burner insert confirmation points
PointWhat to confirm
Recess dimensionsLength, width and depth, as built or as planned
Surround materialThe construction the unit drops into
AccessHow the unit is reached for fuelling and service
ControlManual, or smart with remote and app
RouteBurner insert, not a complete insert, marked per line

The route line in the table looks redundant until a mixed order arrives with both kinds of insert under similar names. Marking it per line costs nothing and prevents the one confusion that changes what is delivered.
